The Tamron 18-270mm actually held a world record for its focal length range back when it was released. While I do not know if this still holds true, it is certainly one heck of a lens and one that has become indispensable to me since I bought it. The cost certainly played a big role in my decision to purchase it, but I was also impressed with the size and weight compared to that of its major competitors. The image quality I get from this lens is pretty good and I only noticed some minor vignetting when using it at the two extremes of its focal length range. Other than some minor barrel distortion at certain focal lengths and a softening as you approach 270mm, this lens works well and has provided me with thousands of great photos so far. After reading a Tokina 35mm Macro review, I decided to buy this lens instead of the Canon 35mm I was initially going to get.
