One of the best ways I experienced wine tasting on my trip to Europe was during a bike tour of the Little Carpathians in Slovakia. My husband and I met with a tour group at morning. We first viewed the old pottery of the small Slovakia towns and we even got to watch the pottery making process. After the pottery making, we then road all the way through the Little Carpathian Wine Route on bike. All along the wine route were beautiful vineyards in a well-preserved medieval town. This was very scenic and relaxing.

After the bike tour of vineyards, we stopped by the Red Stone Castle, which boasts the biggest wine cellars in central Europe. The wine cellars house Slovakia’s National Salon of Wines. The tour of these medieval wine cellars included an elaborate wine tasting. I sampled their Cabernet Sauvignon wines while my husband sampled Malbec wines. The wines were delicious and aged to perfection, and all of them were specifically from the Slovakia region. We learned facts about each wine as we taste tested them.

After our wine tasting, we listened to a wine expert explain the process of winemaking, and practical tips such as how to pair a wine with a good meal. This was my husband’s favorite part of the trip because he learned so many useful facts about wine pairing that he now uses when entertaining. After this great experience, our next trip is to Argentina. We want too attend as many awesome wine tastings in Buenos Aires. We would love to sample wines from all around the world.

Wine tasting in a castle in Central Europe was a unique experience that I would recommend to anyone as part of a European tour, especially during the spring or early summer months when the weather is agreeable.
